Healthy Eating and Non Scale Victories

Celebrate all of your victories, not just the numbers on the scales.

Have you ever heard of Non Scale Victories? These are often the consequence of working with a Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach. And they are really something worth celebrating. 

How do I make Non Scale Victories by heathy eating?

Many clients come to see me because they want to lose weight. And I help them to do that. But what they also come away with are also – you guessed it – Non Scale Victories. 

I always focus on slow-but-sure weight loss by means of healthy eating for many reasons. Here are just a couple:

  • Fast weight loss is what you get with a low calorie diet. It is a quick fix that is not only difficult to follow, but also difficult to maintain
  • With low calorie diets specifically, you are hungry all the time. AND, you run the risk of slowing down your metabolism. How? The body senses starvation, and goes into self-preservation mode where it economises and burns fewer calories. This means it’s also highly likely that, in spite of your best efforts, when you go back to eating normally, you’ll put all the weight on (and then some) once you stop the diet. And you will stop, just as people stop going to diet clubs. When you’re in your own little world of slimming or watching your weight, you can’t help but ask yourself ‘when is it the end?’ or ‘when can I stop?’

What results can I see from eating a healthy balanced diet?

Once you begin to eat a healthy balanced diet, weight loss will happen. But there are also some other unexpected results:

  • A client, who had struggled to sleep for more than four hours at a stretch, was sleeping the whole night through after working with me for a short period of time. 
  • Another client who grazed all day long found that, after just a few weeks of eating a balanced diet, she no longer even needed a morning snack. It was truly liberating for her not to be constantly thinking about food.
  • And then there was a client who had suffered from headaches for years. By changing the way she ate, she was able to prevent her headaches being as frequent.
  • When you work with a Health Coach on making some simple healthy diet and lifestyle changes (which is code for putting yourself first for a change), you really can rediscover your inner sparkle!

These are just a few examples of these Non Scale Victories. These clients had got in touch with me because they wanted to lose weight, but what they gained was so much more than that. They hadn’t realised that eating a healthy balanced diet could make such a difference. But it can, and I see it happen nearly every day.
